The Canberra Evaluation Forum (CEF) invited attendees to a seminar with Paul Bryant, Senior Executive Director from the Performance Audit Services Group within the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO). Paul discussed the ANAO’s ongoing focus on enhancing its performance audit program.
The ANAO’s performance audits have two objectives: to provide the Parliament with assurance relating to the administration of entities and programs; and to encourage better administrative and management practices. This includes highlighting areas of innovation and examining how well agencies measure and evaluate programs and deliver outcomes to the Australian community.
The ANAO is also re-positioning its program to exercise the full range of powers under the Auditor General’s mandate and expanding audit coverage to include a more diverse range of audits. Paul discussed the ANAO’s perspective on opportunities for improvement to Government’s evaluation capabilities drawing on case studies from recent performance audit activity.
Paul is responsible for the ANAO’s performance audit activity in the national security and communications clusters, in addition to supporting the practice management function. Before joining the ANAO Paul worked for Australian listed companies in the global mining services sector, with a focus on developing and auditing compliance frameworks across high risk countries.
