Australian cities have long been an important economic and social asset and will be more important than ever in the 21st century. Our cities provide great opportunities for innovation and productivity in the global knowledge-based economy and are recognised as great places to live, work and study. But there are challenges, particularly in the larger cities with congestion, housing affordability and access to jobs and services. How do we know where to invest our resources to improve the performance of our cities?
Oliver Richards, General Manager from the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities, and Emma Thomas, Director-General of Transport Canberra and City Services from the ACT Government will discuss their perspectives on what makes cities work and how we can measure and improve their performance.
